Mobile analytics company Opensignal awards O2 with the fastest download speeds
Mobile analytics company Opensignal awards O2's network as the fastest 5G network in Germany in terms of the download speed category 1. According to the latest industry report on the quality of 5G mobile networks in Germany, O2 customers experienced significantly faster download speeds than customers in the 5G networks of competitors, with an average of 131.4 Mbit/s. O2 has started its 5G expansion turbo this year: Currently, more than 2,300 5G antennas in over 80 cities are transmitting on the powerful 3.6 GHz frequency. These offer particularly high speeds, additional capacities and short response times for mobile data usage. O2 customers can use 5G in all O2 Free Unlimited tariffs and all volume tariffs from O2 Free M onwards at no extra charge.
Markus Haas
'Our 5G network is growing rapidly. This is directly noticeable in the digital everyday life of our private and business customers, who benefit from an outstanding network experience,' says Markus Haas, CEO of Telefónica Deutschland / O2. 'And we are continuing to expand: We want to cover 30 percent of the German population with our 5G network by the end of the year, and the whole of Germany by 2025. To this end, we are investing more than ever before in the expansion of the network infrastructure in the current year.'
Opensignal report confirms strong performance of O2 network
The Opensignal report is further proof of the performance of O2's 5G network. Only a few weeks ago, the international speed test specialist Ookla had certified the O2 5G network as having the best '5G performance' of all German mobile providers 2. And even apart from 5G, the O2 network is convincing according to expert tests: the leading industry magazine connect awarded the O2 network the grade 'very good' in the last mobile network test.*

O2 brings 5G to over 80 cities
O2 is bringing the high-performance 5G network to more and more cities and regions: The new mobile communications standard is already live in over 80 cities. These include major cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Hanover, Nuremberg, Leipzig and Stuttgart, as well as communities such as Kaufering in the Upper Bavarian district of Landsberg am Lech or Wörth am Rhein in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Germersheim. All of the current 2,300 5G antennas are transmitting at the 3.6 GHz frequency, which is particularly suitable for peak 5G performance.
O2 5G mobile phone tariffs open up access to the excellent network
This year, O2 is also on the offensive with its 5G mobile phone tariffs: with the O2 Free Unlimited Max, customers surf at up to 500 Mbit/s in the 5G network. 5G is also included at no extra charge in the other unlimited tariffs O2 Free UnIimited Smart and O2 Free Unlimited Basic. In addition, customers use the 5G standard in all volume rates from O2 Free M. With 5G, they benefit from an even better surfing experience in everyday life and can use even the most demanding digital applications, such as streaming high-resolution videos in HD or 4K.
* Connect mobile network test, issue 1/2021: 'very good' (852 points); total results: three times 'very good' (926, 876 and 852 points)
