Marathon Petroleum - U.S. Senator John Hoeven tours Dickinson Renewable Diesel Facilit

12/01/2021 | 09:09am EST

Marathon Petroleum leaders hosted U.S. Sen. John Hoeven of North Dakota at the Dickinson Renewable Diesel Facility to see production running at full capacity.

They discussed the partnership between the renewable diesel facility and ADM, which operates the soybean crushing plant and refinery in Spiritwood, North Dakota.

'The partnership between Marathon's renewable diesel facility and ADM's soybean crush plant is a win-win for our state. It adds value for North Dakota-grown soybeans and provides another avenue for our farmers to generate revenue, while also growing our state's role as a global energy powerhouse,' said Hoeven. 'The refinery's $500 million conversion enables North Dakota-produced energy to reach new low-carbon fuel markets, like California. Through efforts like these, our state will continue to be a leader in both feeding and powering our nation.'

Hoeven met with Marathon's facility leadership and government affairs representatives to discuss the site and its future.

'We appreciate Senator Hoeven's visit to our Dickinson facility,' said Rick Hastings, General Manager. 'The Senator was able to see firsthand our safe operations and learn how this site is adding positive economic impact to both our local community and the entire state.'

The senator took a driving tour of the facility and met with employees in the Operations Control Room to learn more about the process of producing renewable fuels in a safe, reliable and environmentally friendly way. Employees appreciated the opportunity to meet the senator and educate him about their role in the process.

'Being new to Dickinson myself, I was very proud to welcome Senator Hoeven at our facility. Hosting him here provided us the opportunity to discuss this site's remarkable journey into producing renewable diesel,' said Steve Schram, Facility Manager. 'The senator seemed to enjoy talking with our employees and even got asked to take some selfies - safely and outside the limits of the refinery.'

The Dickinson facility was converted in 2020 to produce 100 percent renewable diesel from refined soy oil and other organically derived feedstocks.
