Hut 8 Mining Corp. said Thursday that it has purchased 12,000 news cryptocurrency miners from Inchigle Technology Hong Kong Ltd. for $58.7 million.
The Canadian cryptocurrency-mining company said the acquisition is of MicroBT M30S, M30S+ and M30S++ miners, with aggregate incremental production of 1.17 exahash--where a hash is a function that meets the encrypted demands to solve for a blockchain computation.
The company said the miners are expected to be delivered starting in January 2022 at a delivery rate of 1,000 machines a month.
With the new machines, Hut 8 said it expects total contracted capacity to be around 3.57 exahash a second.
"While timing relative to Bitcoin achieving an all-time high is coincidence, this investment serves to reinforce our commitment to efficiently mine and [hold] Bitcoin," Chief Executive Jaime Leverton said.
