'At Eaton, we know cybersecurity is a foundational building block that's vital to a more digital and connected world, and for critical infrastructure like healthcare, it's absolutely essential to have global standards that are consistent,' said Max Wandera, director, Product Cybersecurity Center of Excellence at Eaton. 'Whether online, in-person or on-demand, we continue to invest in industry education and training programs to help our customers advance a more cybersecure future.'
In the new session, Eaton and UL underscore the essential need for global cybersecurity standards and endorse adoption of UL 2900and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62443cybersecurity standards for medical and operational technology (OT) devices, associated systems and development processes. The average cost of a healthcare breach is estimated to be more than $7.13 million (Source: IBM). Despite the recent spike in ransomware attacks and FDA recognition, the UL and IEC healthcare cybersecurity standards are not yet widely adopted.
'Cybersecurity for connected technologies is a major risk that impacts manufacturers, system integrators, asset owners and end product ecosystems,' said Isabelle Noblanc, global vice president and general manager of UL's Identity Management and Security division. 'UL actively advocates for cybersecurity collaboration and compliance based on global industry standards and best practices, which is embodied by the IEC 62443 Family of Standards and UL 2900 Series of Standards. We look forward to further advancing and helping secure the healthcare and industry 4.0 ecosystems.'
