Bremer Lagerhaus Geslschft Von 1877 : BLG commissions new logistics center built by Panattoni Europe in Düsseldorf

04/26/2016 | 08:02am EST

April 26, 2016 Just seven months after breaking ground, BLG LOGISTICS has commissioned the first construction phase of its new logistics center at the Port of Düsseldorf. The official handover from Panattoni Europe took place on April 1. The facility is currently receiving and handling its first full container trucks.

BLG LOGISTICS has thus officially commenced operations in the first construction segment of the new logistics center in Düsseldorf, which comprises a total of 32,000 square meters. Initially, BLG is using 10,000 square meters of this space to provide logistics services for the export of raw parts and assembly components to the customer's plant. In addition to on-site truck controlling, these services include loading and unloading of trailers, cross-docking and repacking processes and handling of empties. The BLG logistics center thus operates as a supplier to the plant of its customer in the automotive sector.

BLG Industrielogistik Managing Directors Robert Bommers and Frank Sturm were on hand for the unloading of the first full-container truck. Regarding the 'go-live' in Düsseldorf, Frank Sturm said, 'We're pleased that our new site is now in operation. After the one-year planning and construction phase, we're right on schedule with the commencement of business.' Robert Bommers added, 'Our next step will be to assume logistics services for further exports of raw parts and assembly components on an additional 10,000 square meters. We're thus successively expanding our operations at the Düsseldorf site.'

On this property, which covers 117.000 square meters in all, the project partners Panattoni Europe and AEW Europe are developing a logistics center that is tailored to meet the needs of auto parts and industrial logistics. A total of 60,000 square meters of logistics space is to be built in two construction phases. This logistics facility at Düsseldorf's port was laid out specifically according to the needs of BLG and its customers. The complex meets all requirements for handling long trucks and also permits sideways unloading under shed roofs.

Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner of Panattoni Europe, noted, 'The development of the second construction phase is proceeding smoothly and on schedule. The logistics, office and equipment spaces and the entire outdoor facilities will meet the most demanding standards for effective handling.' Stephan Bönning, Head of Germany and CEE of AEW Europe added, 'We're very pleased to have a high-quality property like this in such a fantastic location as the Port of Düsseldorf in our logistics portfolio.'

'The location directly opposite the container terminal, with its excellent connection to all transportation modes is proving to be ideal in practice,' reported Kuno Neumeier, Managing Director of the logistics real estate specialist Logivest.

This Munich-based firm intensively supported the partners BLG and Panattoni in the location process and in negotiations with Stadtwerke Düsseldorf and the Ports of Neuss-Düsseldorf Häfen.
