Steve Mason, Principal Marine Surveyor / DP & Critical Systems | ABL Houston
What do you do at AqualisBraemar LOC?
I am currently one of the Dynamic Positioning and Critical Systems RTAs. My role is to help our clients to manage compliance and functional testing of their vessels Dynamic Position systems. I am also a Marine Warranty Surveyor involved in the marine assurance aspect. I conduct suitability and mission equipment surveys on vessels that are intended for use on our client's projects.
What excites you the most about our industry?
The dynamic nature of the energy sector has always interested me, even after 30 years as a mariner supporting offshore energy projects. Now as a consultant, I find the role to be every bit as challenging and even more fulfilling.
What made you join AqualisBraemar LOC?
To have the opportunity to be a part of a team that supports some of the most important energy projects in the world.
Since joining ABL I have contributed to so many great projects. One, which had most personal importance to me, was supporting the MWS for one of the United States' first offshore wind projects. During the project, I provided marine assurance by conducting suitability surveys of the vessel used to support the export cable installation. I can honestly say I have been a part of America's energy transition.
What do you do when you are not working?
I truly enjoy spending time with my family. I have a young son and I love spending time with him going to the park and just being a part of many of his first experiences.
