AEON Monthly Operating Performance of Major Consolidated Companies in July 2021
July Sales Trends:
Offerings of summer-related products and cooling/refreshing products were bolstered in response to climbing temperatures following the earlier-than-usual end to this year's rainy season. Offerings of products connected with watching sports at home were also expanded ahead of the opening of the Tokyo Olympics.
At General Merchandise Store Business company, AEON Retail, same-store food products section sales exceeded results for both July 2020 and July 2019. This was partly due to efforts to expand sales of snacks, hors d'oeuvres, beverages, liquor, etc. in response to demand relating to watching the Olympics at home. And sales in the agricultural and marine produce, dairy product, and liquor categories, were particularly strong, with monthly sales up compared with 2019 for the fifth consecutive month. With regard to non-food product sales, Sporsium, hobby, and child-related product category sales trended strongly. Online supermarket sales were also up roughly 40% compared to July 2019. This was due to sales promotions for online supermarkets in order to response to demand relating to watching the Olympics at home.
The Supermarket Business achieved same-store sales that exceeded those for July 2020 and July 2019. July was the second consecutive month in which monthly sales exceeded those for both 2020 and 2019. This was due to efforts by each Supermarket Business company to offer delicious, high-quality food products that are good enough to serve as alternatives to restaurant food. Such products are targeted at meeting demand for enjoying delicious, quick-and-easy-to-prepare meals at home.
Health & Wellness Business company Welcia Holdings' same-store prescription drugs section sales saw a double-digityear-on-year increase for the third consecutive month. The number of prescriptions filled also continued to increase as the number of people undergoing medical examinations returns to normal levels. Sales of goods, and same-store customer traffic, were also up year on year.
