Shares of industrial and transportation companies surged as fears about the implications of the Omicron variant for global growth subsided.
Initial indications suggest that the new variant could be more contagious but less deadly than previous strains, according to strategists at brokerage JPMorgan.
Shares of Boeing, which had retreated steadily because of fears of another collapse in demand for air travel, rose by more than 7%, bringing shares of the aerospace giant to the flat line for the year to date.
