FTSE 100 Seen Flat Post Bailey Speech; Powell Testimony Awaited

09/28/2021 | 03:09am EDT

FTSE 100 to Open Flat Ahead of Powell Speech

0637 GMT - The FTSE 100 is expected to open little changed, according to IG, as investors digest remarks from Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey and await a speech from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell later. Bailey said on Monday that interest rates could be lifted before Christmas if needed to stem inflation. In pre-released comments of a speech Powell will deliver to the Senate Banking Committee at 1400 GMT, he said the Fed would raise rates if sustained higher inflation became a serious concern. "It certainly feels like central bankers are becoming much more nervous about what is happening with the global economy, particularly when it comes to prices...," CMC Markets analyst Michael Hewson says.
