Communications Services Fall Amid Fears About Covid Spread -- Communications Services Roundup

11/30/2020 | 05:14pm EST

Communications services companies fell amid concerns about the latest wave of Covid-19 infections in the U.S.

Comcast's Universal studio released "The Croods: A New Age" over the weekend and saw stronger box-office sales than the only previous "tent pole" movie released during the pandemic, "Tenet," according to research firm Benchmark Research, taking in an estimated $9.7 million at the North American box office for Friday through Sunday.

Shares of cinema chains such as AMC Entertainment and Cinemark Holdings fell, however, due to concerns about the second wave of coronavirus infections sweeping the U.S., a wave that epidemiologists warned likely gained momentum during the Thanksgiving holiday, as many Americans ignored warnings against family gatherings.

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi moved ahead of Apple to become the number three smartphone vendor in the third quarter, as domestic rival Huawei lost ground, according to research firm Gartner, as reported earlier.
