ADRs End Higher; Ericsson, Danone Among Companies Actively Trading

10/19/2021 | 05:27pm EST

By Kimberly Chin

International stocks trading in New York closed higher on Tuesday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts rose 1% to 167.47. The European index improved 0.8% to 147.22. The Asian index increased 1.9% to 228.80. And the emerging-markets index rose 1.7% to 379.47.

However, the Latin American index decreased 2.9% to 184.90.

ADRs of Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson tumbled 3.9% after the Swedish telecom-equipment maker said sales slipped 2.1% after a heavy sales fall in mainland China as well as some supply-chain disruptions late in the third quarter.

Danone SA's ADRs, which trade over the counter, fell 2.5% after the food company backed its 2021 guidance and said it expects to return to profitable growth in the second half of the year.

Roche Holding AG's ADRs, which trade over the counter, slipped 1.2% on Tuesday. Atea Pharmaceuticals Inc., in collaboration with the Swiss pharmaceutical company, said its oral Covid-19 treatment failed in a midstage trial. The treatment didn't cut the viral load in nonhospitalized patients with mild to moderate symptoms.
