BAE : CV90 bid fulfills all key Czech MoD requirements

09/20/2021 | 08:33am EDT

BAE Systems' bid to replace the Czech Army's legacy BMP-II vehicles is fully compliant with all key requirements set out by the Czech MoD and Czech Army.

The bid, from BAE Systems Hagglunds of Sweden, is centred on the modern, combat-proven CV90 MKIV, and incorporates a proven strategic industrial cooperation approach that will bring significant added value to the Czech Republic and a unique opportunity to join an elite community of seven established CV90 users.

Built by BAE Systems Hagglunds, the CV90 MkIV is and the most capable infantry fighting vehicle available on the market today, and its performance is proven by the excellent test results seen during recent trials in the Czech Republic. The CV90 will be showcased at the NATO Days event in Ostrava, Czech Republic (Sept. 18-19, 2021) with support from this year's partner nation, Sweden.

'Our CV90 MkIV offer to the Czech Republic meets all the key requirements of the competition as clearly defined by the Czech MoD. We can commit to deliver the number of vehicles, to cost and on schedule,' said Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, managing director of BAE Systems Hagglunds. 'BAE Systems' offer also exceeds the industrial cooperation requirements called for by the Czech Army. We want Czech industry to play a high-value and strategic role in the development and production of its nation's new vehicle and all its variants to secure sovereignty for decades to come.'

Industrial Benefits of the CV90 bid:

The Czech CV90 MkIV vehicles would be delivered as a Czech defense industry project, inspired by the Czech innovation strategy. VOP CZ s.p., the main partner on the bid, is joined by other Czech industry companies including MEOPTA, VR Group, VTU and Ray Service, and an additional 30+ Czech defense companies and Czech academia.

BAE Systems Hagglunds' offer substantially exceeds the mandated 40% direct content and will immediately inject substantial investment into participating Czech industries. The bid also provides added value opportunities that could fundamentally strengthen the country's defence industry and boost other economic sectors as well.

In addition, the indirect effects of the BAE Systems offer would bring benefits in excess of 50 billion CZK through the life of the program and provide significant opportunities for companies to join the BAE Systems global supply chain.

The transfer of CV90-related intellectual property to support strategic Czech innovation goals and ensure the Czech Army independence in maintenance, repair and future development of the vehicle.

The CV90 is the most recognized, respected and combat-proven infantry fighting vehicle deployed by NATO member states. BAE Systems has delivered close to 1,300 vehicles in 15 variants to seven European countries, including four NATO members. Adopting the CV90 also gives access to the exclusive CV90 User Club, bringing potential sharing of key systems and designs across the CV90 family of vehicles, reducing risk and providing an opportunity to share costs in the post-acquisition phase. All six previous CV90 industrial cooperation and export programs from BAE Systems have delivered industrial content to at least the full contract value and always ahead of the agreed schedule.
