BLM Bureau of Land Management : issues Decision Record for Moriah Herd Area Wild Horse Gather Plan EA

10/23/2020 | 06:30pm EST

ELY, Nev. - On Oct. 22, 2020, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Ely District issued a Decision Record (DR) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) based on analysis provided in the Moriah Herd Area 10-year Wild Horse Gather Environmental Assessment (EA).

The action is needed in order to reduce impacts to rangeland health and wildlife habitat within and outside of the herd area (HA) boundaries. The EA will be used to facilitate gathers and removals of excess wild horses in accordance with 43 CFR 4700 regulation and the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971, as amended (Public Law 92-195). The Appropriate Management Level for the Moriah Herd Area is zero wild horses.

The EA and DR/FONSI are available online at https://go.usa.gov/xw7Bd. Hardcopies of the documents can be made available, upon request, by calling the BLM Ely District Office at (775) 289-1800.

For technical information, contact Ben Noyes, Ely District Wild Horse and Burro Specialist, at (775) 289-1836.
